Known Issues and FAQ - Auracle X
All Platforms
Devices will not reconnect properly sometimes, with a higher occurrence rate for RTP devices.
This can happen if programs are still open in the background or if another instance of Auracle is running on the same network for RTP. Only one device can auto-connect for configuration using the Auracle to device handshake that skips the Mac Network Midi configuration or rtpMIDI for Windows. No matter what, we do not recommend hot-plugging devices for reconfiguration during live events.
Will RTP devices connect over WiFi? RTP devices will drop on and off when connected to over WiFi.
This is not considered a supported use case. RTP over a wireless connection vs a wired connection is considerably more problematic at the network transport layer. This is not something we can solve from the software and/or device side since it’s fundamentally tied to dropped packets and increased latency over most WiFi connections. We run some testing over WiFi within internal Q&A, but only as a tool to over-cover our supported parameters.
Auracle X will not detect RTP or USB devices at all.
This is something we saw with older devices (dual core or 5+ years old) running versions 1.6.0 to 1.6.2. Performance was greatly improved with version 1.6.3, but overall performance will not match newer devices.
The software will not come back to a correct state after the computer wakes from sleep.
This happens consistently on some laptops. We haven’t been able to root cause this issue because we haven’t been able to reproduce this at all. If this happens to you, please restart the program upon wakeup.
Can I connect devices over RTP-midi over the internet?
This is something we’ve been asked about and have been doing ourselves because of quarantine. It’s not something that the RTP-MIDI specification was probably thinking about when it was created, but it can be done with the right network configuration. We recommend linking your devices using a Layer 2 VPN such as OpenVPN. You can also get things working with a Layer 3 VPN such as WireGuard, but you’ll have to set up a Bonjour mirror to get everything working as intended. Latency will vary depending on the internet connections you bridge over VPN.
Can I revert my update to a previous working version after an update?
We link to the last stable release in our Auracle X page and all previous releases on the Release Notes & Software Archive page. In the case where a currently release of ours is buggy, our aim within software is to fix any breaking issues within the next software release and hold off on new features until the next following software release.
