Part 10: Updating Firmware

What is Auracle for X-Series?

Auracle for X-Series is the free control software that allows you to set up and configure your iConnectivity audio and MIDI Interfaces. In this new video series, we’ll be walking through all the features of Auracle for X-Series so you know exactly how to set up and configure your interface.

In this video, we’re taking a look at updating firmware on our iConnectivity interface using Auracle for X-Series. You’ll learn how to automatically update your firmware, plus a special feature that allows you to update firmware when you’re not connected to the internet. Before we dive into today’s video make sure you’ve downloaded Auracle for X-Series and installed it on your computer.

What is Firmware anyway?

Firmware is like a manual for your interface. When you update firmware on your interface, you’re giving your interface a new manual for it to read. The interface will “read” the manual and it will operate based on those instructions.

Why Should I update my firmware?

Updating Firmware allows you to give your interface new features and fix any pesky bugs that may pop up. Firmware allows companies to add new features to hardware without releasing a brand new product. Plus, when a bug occasionally pops uuuuuup (note to self update firmware on this blog post), firmware updates can squash the bug.

To keep your interface up to date with new features and bug fixes, you should make sure you frequently check for firmware updates. It’s important to note, while it’s crucial to keep your firmware updated, we don’t suggest updating if you’re in the middle of a tour or mission critical environment. Wait till you have some down-time and update your interfaces when you’re not on stage or in the middle of a project.

Connecting your Interface to your Computer

To update your firmware, connect your interface to your computer using the correct USB port on your interface. On some interfaces with multiple USB ports, you’ll need to make sure you’re connected to the correct port.

Don’t worry, it’s easy to make sure you’re using the correct port.

Connect your interface to your computer and click the Firmware button to enter the firmware page. If you need to swap to the other port, you’ll get a message directly in Auracle for X-Series. In that case-switch to the other USB port on your interface and proceed with updating the firmware.

Loading firmware from file

First, let’s look at loading firmware from a file.

This is helpful if you’re on tour and the venue doesn’t have internet. You can download the latest firmware at the hotel on your computer, and when you’re back at the venue you can load the firmware on your interface. Here’s how to do that:

Click the “Choose File” button next to Load from File.

Find the Firmware file on your computer. Once you’ve found it, click “Open”.

You’ll see a message letting you know that the firmware is loading on your interface.

While the firmware is loading on your interface, your interface will turn off and the lights on your interface will flash showing that the firmware is loading. Once the firmware is loaded your interface will re-boot and you’ll see your interface show back up in Auracle for X-Series.

Automatically Loading Firmware

In most circumstances, you just want to load the latest firmware on your device. If you’ve got an internet connection this is as easy as a single click with Auracle for X-Series.

Here’s how:

Click the Install button next to “Load Latest from Web”. This will automatically download the latest firmware from the iConnectivity servers and start the process of loading on your interface.

Similar to loading firmware from a file, you’ll see a message letting you know that the firmware is loading on your interface. Your interface will turn off and the lights on your interface will flash showing that the firmware is loading. Once the firmware is loaded your interface will re-boot and you’ll be good to go!
