How to Easily Control Your PlayAUDIO1U Using Your MIDI Controller
When it comes to using your MIDI controller on-stage, it isn't JUST for controlling your DAW. With the PlayAUDIO1U, you can use your MIDI controller to control your interface, even without your computer connected! In this article, I'm going to show you how easy it is to control features of PlayAUDIO1U using your MIDI controller.
Mapping Your MIDI Controller to PlayAUDIO1U
First connect your MIDI controller to the USB host port on the PlayAUDIO1U.
Download Auracle for X-Series, and click USB Host Reservation.
By connecting your MIDI controller to the USB host port on the PlayAUDIO1U and using Auracle for X-Series, you can easily map your controller to adjust various parameters. One of the most common applications is adjusting output levels, such as output one.
Reserve a host port for your MIDI controller.
By following a few simple steps within the Auracle for X-Series software, you can quickly map a fader on your MIDI controller to control the output level on your PlayAUDIO1U.
Now go into the audio page and click Toggle MIDI Learn Set in the bottom right corner of the program.
With the MIDI learn set function enabled in Auracle for X-Series, select a parameter in Auracle that’s blue, such as a fader, and move a fader, or press a button on your MIDI controller. This maps that feature to your MIDI controller.
You can also control multiple faders in Auracle for X-Series with a single fader on your MIDI controller. For example, controlling all the faders of your headphone mix with one fader on your MIDI controller.
As I move the fader on my MIDI controller, the fader in Auracle is moving as well.
Hardware Control (Even Without a Computer)
An important note to stress, is I’m not mapping to software, but the actually interface itself. Once you have mapped the desired parameters using the Auracle for X-Series software, that mapping remains stored within the interface itself. This means that you can disconnect from your computer and still have full hardware control over your PlayAUDIO1U.
In the image above, I disconnected from my computer and as I move the fader, you can see I’m still controlling the physical output level of output 1 on our interface with no computer connected.
Mastering the art of MIDI Control
Using your MIDI controller with the PlayAUDIO1U, allows you to customize the integration to fit your setup, and to get control of the most important features of the interface from your MIDI controller.
